yuletide letter
Hi, dear yuletide author!
Sorry for the delay. I'm really excited, yuletide is always such a fun bonus for the end of the year and I'm really glad it's that time of the year. I'm really excited to find out what fandom we were matched on, and I hope you have writing! I've listed some General Likes and Dislikes/Do Not Wants below and for each fandom specific, but no matter what I can't wait to see what you come up with!
LIKES: I enjoy hurt/comfort, fluff, humour, romance - whatever you're comfortable writing G to E is cool. I prefer happy endings especially this time of year, slow burn and lots of mutual pining. Really feel free to lean into trope-y fics; any friends-to-lovers, domestic things/domesticity, "woke up married," secretly dating, fake dating. I’ve noted possible/preferred pairings but also where gen would be awesome! Friendships/friendship domesticity and loyalty, non-romantic/intimate love between friends is totally my jam!
DISLIKES: Generally, Grim/Dark!fic, crack!fic, non-con, major character death or heavy/hard-core bdsm and related. Crossovers.
I had such a visceral reaction to this book. I didn’t except to love it as much as I did, but I fell for Caden Walker. The way he falls in love with Dylan and their late night drives? The part about them listening to Andy You’re a Star? It all hit me in the gut. And then Dylan tells him it was all an act all along? I’ve never felt a character’s emotional reaction as clearly and deeply as I felt Caden’s anguish when Dylan said that. Because I loved the way they kissed good-bye just before, and how Caden felt safe to be himself. I reread that chapter the most. It burned too hard for me to feel satisfied with the epilogue so I picked this fandom looking for some Caden curtain!fic. Something more than the vague ‘their relationship isn’t perfect, but Caden lost too much not to love Dylan forever’ that we got from the epilogue. Maybe how college is going, about their domesticity, or even Dylan showing Caden he loves him? I just want more for Caden.
I think I put it in my sign-up notes but please please, OT3! (Though I am totally open to Midnighter/Apollo solo as well.)
I loved the mini-series Midnighter & Apollo book and the whole take on Orpheus and Eurydice, but with punching and the lovers winning at the end. I love Orlando’s take on M and Apollo, in general and how they feel like a real couple. The way they broke up in Midnighter because, in part, they needed space to see if they were meant to be or just thrown together by circumstance feels so real. They were taken by the Garden and tortured; knowing they needed personal growth to come back together felt real. But also, I love how M flirts with Dick. When he kidnaps him and says it’s date night?
LONG STORY SHORT: anything happy, and domestic and with lots of banter between M and these two (possibly altogether) would be such a lovely read! Please feel free to get as trope-y as you please with this fandom especially!!
On that note, I will take any gen/platonic hijinks/day to day stuff for Ester and Lottie’s relationship which is so cute and functional but shouldn’t work. Or relationship studies about Lottie, Esther and Charlene. We have some information about what Charlene was like as an intern, how was Lottie after Charlene? How did she meet Esther? Even anything Charlene/Lottie which honestly gives me Jennifer’s Body vibes, just saying. Last idea: pretty, soft gay girls and their beauty blog.
For this fandom I really wanted to prompt two different genres? I honestly know Daken even less well than I knew Bobby before I started reading the Iceman comic and X-men Blue, but the issue where he flirts with Bobby is so good. And the idea of that coming ot a head and they actually date/have sex/fight some more with the same flirting charge? That sounds like a great yuletide read!
The other thought I had was any sort of gen with the two Bobbys hanging out and getting to figure this stuff, especially their powers and that possible scary future where they are overly powerful, together. Maybe even something simple, even though Bobby is getting a weird feeling acting like a big brother to himself, but the kid asked for his advice and he likes him? Character studies.

Snotgirl
Lottie Person, Esther, Charlene
The only thing I love more than the aesthetic of this comic, and the secret murder mystery of the first arc, is the relationship between Lottie and Esther. There’s something so wonderful about how, despite appearing long suffering, Esther also genuinely loves Lottie. And tells her so. The main pairing I’d love, love to see is Lottie and Esther. I mean Esther deserves better but she’s stuck around FOR A WHILE and clearly thinks Lottie is amazing. As Lottie does about Esther. Basically I’m saying a Two Weeks AU where Lottie goes to get Esther back. Lottie Person, Esther, Charlene

Iceman (2017)
Bobby Drake, Young Bobby Drake, Daken
I picked up the Iceman comic, initially for Kevin Wada’s covers but then I fell in love! I think the writing has done such a good job of grabbing the feeling of struggling within one’s identity which has always been inherent in X-Men related comics, and done such a good job showing Bobby learn to be himself. The way he’s trying to be out there and meet guys, and how he’s older and having to learn how to date all over again really strikes a tone with me. Just one of my top reads of 2017.
